Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How are you funded?
A: NorthLand receives funds from a wide variety of sources, including
the federal government, the state government, and the Winneshiek County
United Way.
About one-third of our income comes from older persons who contribute
for the services they receive. And a great deal of support comes from
hundreds of volunteers who donate their time and labor to further our
mission.
Q: Are you a state or federal agency?
A: We are a private, non-profit corporation, with a locally-elected
board of directors.
Q: How much do your services cost?
A: NorthLand does not charge for its services to people aged sixty and
older. We offer each consumer an opportunity to contribute towards
the cost of that service. We display the full cost of the service
and the amount that we suggest the consumer contribute. The
consumer can contribute whatever he or she wants, the full cost (or
more), the suggested amount or less, or nothing. The service will
be provided regardless.
We have found that most of our consumers want to contribute as much as
they can for their services. We're serving a generation that is
used to paying their own way.
Q: How can I help?
A: You can get involved in a number of ways. You can support
legislative initiatives that benefit older people, you can volunteer
your time and labor to help us deliver meals to homebound elders, and
you can contribute monetarily to support our efforts.
For ethical reasons, we do not actively pursue gifts, such as bequests,
from our consumers. But we will accept such gifts when they are
freely offered. If you are interested in any of these options,
please contact us here.
